Privacy notice
Last updated 20 October 2026
This notice explains what personal information Legalize It collects when you use this website and our services, why we collect it, and your rights under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
What we collect
- Account and contact details: your name, email address, phone number and business name.
- Signing in with Google: if you choose "Continue with Google", Google shares your name, email address and an account ID with us. We use them only to sign you in. We never see your Google password or anything else in your Google account.
- Application details: the answers you give for a service, such as proposed company names, director and shareholder details, addresses and descriptions of your business, product or invention.
- Documents: identity documents, photographs, company records and anything else you upload.
- Messages: what you send us through your account, the contact form or email.
- Searches: what you search for on this site, so we can see which services people look for. Searches are not linked to your name unless you are signed in, and are deleted after two years.
- Technical information: basic logs such as IP address and browser type, used to keep the service secure.
Why we use it
We use your information to provide the service you ask for: to prepare and file applications with government agencies, to contact you about your application, and to keep records we are required to keep. Our lawful basis is the performance of our contract with you, compliance with legal obligations, and, for anything else, your consent.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
We share information only where it is needed for your service, for example with the Corporate Affairs Commission, the Trademarks, Patents and Designs Registry or another agency you have asked us to file with. We also use trusted providers for hosting, file storage and email, and Google Analytics for visit statistics, who process data on our instructions.
How long we keep it
We keep application records and documents for as long as you have an account and for up to six years afterwards, so that we can answer questions about past filings and meet legal and professional obligations. You can ask us to delete information we no longer need.
How we protect it
Documents are stored privately and are only available to you and our team when signed in. Access to HQ, our internal system, is limited to staff who work on applications.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, correct it, ask us to delete it, object to how we use it, or ask for a copy in a portable format. You can also withdraw consent where we rely on it. To do any of these, email [email protected]. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Cookies
We use cookies to keep you signed in and to protect forms from misuse. On our public pages we also use Google Analytics, which sets cookies to count visits and see which pages are useful, so we can improve the site. It tells us about visits in general, such as pages viewed, the type of device and the country, not who you are. Google processes this on our behalf; see how Google uses this information. Analytics is never used in your account. We do not use advertising cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or use Google's opt-out add-on.
Changes
If we change this notice we will update the date above, and tell account holders about significant changes by email.
